3 Steps to Create an Amazing Onboarding Experience

Ready to revamp your onboarding program? Or maybe you're just now starting to create new employee training? If you’re not sure where to begin, keep reading to find how you can create a new employee experience that really shows off your company’s culture!

Step #1: Get Buy-In from Key Stakeholders

Believe it or not, your stakeholders can make or break new employee training.  Stakeholders are anyone that would be impacted from your onboarding training. HR dept, billing, leadership - any department. Having buy-in will help you to provide important information to new employees that will help other departments.

But, having buy-in also means these stakeholders will be your champion - which means they will be supportive of your training.  Getting buy-in can be as simple as having a conversation with people in your company. But, one of our most successful onboarding programs created an advisory board out of key stakeholders in the company. This advisory committee helped design, support, and grow the company onboarding program.

Step #2: Interview Employees

Want to know what should be included in your employee onboarding program? Who better to let you know than your employees!  This is something we take to heart. In fact, we when we were working on rolling out a new version of the Anchored Training onboarding program, the first thing we did was reach out to our internal team.

What did we ask?

  • Did you have an understanding of our company, values, and expectations?

  • What did you wish you would have known?

  • Did you know who to go to for questions?

  • What advice would you have for new employees?

Who did we ask?

  • Our oldest partner

  • Our newest employee

  • Two people on our leadership team

The answers to these questions made up the foundation of our onboarding program.

Step #3: Identify Key Pieces of Your Culture

What is culture? It’s a mix of values, beliefs, processes and routines in your company.  Of these things, what makes your company unique? What are you known for? The answers to these questions are key pieces of your culture that should be included in your training!

For Anchored Training, our onboarding is fun, outlines our design process - but really highlights how new employees can learn and grow at Anchored Training. This is a direct reflection of our family value.

So, how can bringing all of these pieces together create a successful onboarding for your company?  We can help! We are your learning solutions partner working side by side with you to create learning solutions that keep your learners at the heart and your culture in the forefront.
