International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day! This morning, I launched the International Women’s Day website to check for the theme and hastags for this year.  #EachforEqual is the theme.  They state, “An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.”

What a powerful statement and one that got me to thinking how I would be celebrating and taking action. As a mom of two young girls, I am frequently talking to them about being their own girl, and eventually a girl boss.  Just this weekend, I picked up two more books for them including a coloring book to teach them more about females who have made an impact on this world. We talk and read about women such as: Frida Khalo, Celia Cruz, Ruth Bayder Ginsberg (You down with RBG? Yea you know me!), Hillary Clinton, Cleopatra, Maya Angelou, Amelia Earheart, Mala Yousafza and the list goes on and on. It is important for me to raise girls who empower themselves and strive to achieve their goals and hustle to get to where they want to be in life.  I am raising mini-bosses!

We also talk a lot about respecting themselves as well as others and a big talk is about kindness and inclusivity. Something we could all use more of.  Equality is not just a gender identity, race identity or sexuality identify issue. It is also an issue for our friends who are disabled in some way.  I had a customer who received feedback that their online resources were not friendly for those who are visually impaired. Something that up until then they did not think about absolutely innocently because they had not heard the feedback before. Since then we have been working with this customer to ensure all of their eLearning modules are accessible to all. We ensure all photos have descriptions attached it them, we include closed captioning for any slide that has audio and we do also use voice over for all modules and videos. Don’t get stuck scrambling to make your learning assets accessible. At Anchored Training, we can review your existing content to make it accessible for all and we can also create new content and include accessibility during creation.
