The Future of Learning: First Impressions Matter. Are You Making a Good One?

Today’s consumers know what they like (or don’t) when they see it. It only takes 1/10th of a second to form a first impression about a person; the same goes for content. It takes about 50 milliseconds for users to form an opinion about the content they’re consuming based solely on its visual appeal, and data suggests that companies have a maximum of 10 seconds to engage a viewer.

As content creators, that means we have a short amount of time but that’s all we need to make a big impact. There are so many available channels for us to share and reinforce learning content. We just have to adapt the way we’ve been designing and delivering it.

So, how do we create bingeable content that reflects the future of learning?

Keep It Real

TikTok leveled the content creation playing field by making video production accessible to amateurs by providing them with filters, background music, stickers, and other special effects.  Pre-TikTok, viral videos equaled big budgets. Now, the currency of a viral video is “realness” — bringing viewers behind the scenes, being vulnerable, using humor, and flipping the script on stereotypes.

Make It Accessible

The next generation of the workforce wants to hit the ground running. They're looking for employers that will prioritize their growth and make learning opportunities for advancement accessible and convenient. In fact, 76% of Gen Zers see upskilling as key to their career advancement. Determine which platforms and channels your employees are already active on and bring the content to them for seamless, organic integration.

Use It to Foster Community

No matter what developments we see in technology, we’re all still people, and we’ll always crave human connection. Although a large percentage of Gen Z prefers remote work or considers it essential, making friends, networking, and finding a mentor are some of their biggest challenges. Creating a place where binge-able information can be shared is a great first step in fostering the community that your learners are searching for.
